CAMP McGOVERN
Camp McGovern is a residential summer camp specifically designed for children from Big Brothers Big Sisters, United Way and Social Service Agencies.
Head Cook
- A willing member of the camp team
- Organizes and implements the food service department of the camp
- Reports to the Director
Responsibilities
Expand on and develop the Kitchen Manuel
Implement established Menu (follows Canada’s Food Guide)
- Purchasing from various vendors
- Seek out cost saving practices
- Track weekly budgets, based on menu
Preparation and serving of all meals (Max. 120 people on site)
- Ensure quality control and presentation of meals
- Understand time management and seek to maintain daily meal schedules
- Be aware of special diets and food concerns and provide adequate alternatives
- Seek out ways to limit food waste
Establish contacts with food suppliers
- Receive weekly deliveries and check delivery orders
Prepare checklists, schedules and inventories for summer program
- Keep an accurate inventory of all supplies relevant to the Kitchen
Be aware of health standards and actively work to maintain them
- Ensure all practices meet the Health code standards and government regulations
- Maintain a clean and hygienic workspace
Manage and Coordinate Kitchen Duties
- Supervision of Assistant Cook and kitchen assistants
Requirements
- Minimum 21 years of age
- 2 years of relevant post-secondary schooling and/or experience
- Ability to adhere to strict schedule guidelines/Strong time-management skills
- First Aid and CPR training
- Food safety Certification or equivalent (e.g. “Servsafe”)
